HOW BRAIN TRAINING HELPS
Gina Cruz, Owner of LearningRx San Antonio Northeast, discusses the impact school avoidance struggles can have on students. Frustration, hopelessness, and "stinking thinking" can be the result of the inability to focus on important tasks.
Most families feel frustrated from not understanding the root cause of the issue. Once we have assessed the cognitive skill issue, our families are more informed about what causes the student to lose focus in the first place. Learning your individual cognitive strengths and weaknesses can be one of the most empowering experiences you can have as a student. Once we know what needs improving, we can create a brain training plan that serves your growth.

If your child struggles with focus and attention and they’re labeled the bad child - maybe they’re not listening or following directions - not turning in their work - causing distractions or disturbances in class. You know, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are reasons behind why your child may not have focus and attention - why they may be appearing not to be a good listener - not to be following directions. So many times it looks like weak processing speed. Maybe they’re not processing those directions fast enough. Maybe they are playing with something in their desk, or they’re doodling, or they’re looking out the window or talking to a friend. Again, that goes back to processing speed or working memory. Maybe they forgot what the teacher said. Maybe they honestly forgot the directions that you gave them. You know, there are many emotional consequences to being labeled a “bad child” and it’s really not about being “bad.” There are underlying causes and weaknesses many times that are causing things to look like someone is “bad” or misbehaving. But we have to really look at the root cause. When you think that you’re bad - when you think that you can do nothing right - and you’re being told that over and over again, you will become what you’re told that you are. And we don’t want that to happen. As you can see, bad is not bad. There are underlying issues that may be causing that, but we have a solution for you. The brain can be changed. You can increase the brain’s cognitive skills or cognitive functions, like processing speed, like short term or working memory - so that focus and attention can increase. And that child can go from someone that is thought to be a bad listener and not following directions to being a great listener, and following directions, and staying focused and attentive in class and at home. Do you want to stop having to say, “Take out the trash. Make your bed. Clean your room.” You can stop saying those things by improving the foundational skills that are causing your child not to remember or not to listen. It can be so frustrating having to repeat yourself over and over again to your child. It doesn’t have to be that way. With one on one brain training we can directly address the root cause of weak attention skills and lack of focus by improving the foundational skills that are responsible for being able to pay attention. Imagine what that’s like if you are that child hearing those negative comments over and over again and you really, simply cannot help it. I’ve had so many students here where that is the case. And they come in to our center defeated, deflated - feeling bad. When really, they’re not bad at all. And what we end up seeing are students with their self esteem improved and that “bad” stigma off of them. And they feel great. They feel like they can conquer the world. They love to hear the praise their teachers and parents are giving them and not feeling like they’re bad any longer. And you wouldn’t believe the kinds of changes that we have seen and how much they just brighten up and smile and enjoy learning at that point because they’re able to. They’re able to pay attention and listen. If that sounds like something that is a part of your life as a parent or if you’re a teacher and that sounds like a student in your classroom, we’ve seen students just like that here at LearningRx. We can help. We are the place to go to improve attention skills. Whether your child has been identified with ADD or ADHD or not, they just have an attention weakness, we’re the place to come to. So all you have to do is fill out the information below with your name, phone number, and email address and we’ll send you the attention and focus packet so that you have a way to improve these skills at home. So if you’re ready to see your happy child again and have that happy, easy family life that you once had before, we can help you make that dream a reality.
